Come and experience the fascinating connections between people, plants and animals. Como Park Zoo and Conservatory plays a vital role in teaching people about our world. As a volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy learning, sharing and growing with us in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere. Como volunteers are young, old and in-between with a wide variety of backgrounds and schedules. Whatever your interests, we’ll help you find a place to belong.

There are many different ways to volunteer. You can be a:

Special Projects or Events Volunteer
Nature Walk Youth Interpreter (ages 13-17)

As a volunteer, you will find that your life is enhanced by the people you meet at Como and by the new things you learn about plants, animals, gardens and their impact on cultures and the environment. Volunteer benefits include; free training, valuable experience, gift shop discounts, newsletter subscriptions and invitations to special events.

Volunteer Position Descriptions

Visitor Greeter —Welcome and assist visitors in finding locations and special activities. (back to top)

Plant Interpreter —Welcome visitors and share information about the conservatory displays, relationships between plants and humans and other information about plants. (back to top)

Animal Interpreter —Help visitors create a fulfilling zoo experience by sharing information about the animals – how we are all connected, interesting facts about the species, etc. (back to top)

Education Aide —Work with classes, research, write, or work with exhibits and signage. (back to top)

Gardener Aide —Assist staff in the preparation and maintenance of horticultural displays. Indoor and outdoor seasonal positions. (back to top)

Japanese Garden Interpreter —Welcome visitors and share helpful information about the philosophy, symbolism, and history of Japanese Gardens. (back to top)

Nature Walk Interpreter —For youth ages 13-17 years old who will share knowledge of the animals and plants with visitors. Volunteer June – August after attending training sessions. The application deadline is March 31st; see above for application materials which will be available January thru March. (back to top)

Special Projects or Events Volunteer —There are many ways to be involved here! Projects include bulb cleaning, flower pot cleaning, set and prop design and construction. Events are Valentine Soiree, Sunset Affair, Wine Tasting, Japanese Lantern Lighting and ZooBoo. (back to top)
